Magnum Walerhone Assemblage AOC VS

The legend of the wine "The disputatious winegrowers"

Two Valais winegrowers claimed that each of them had the best red wine in the Rhone Valley. They praised their own grape variety and their unsurpassable craftsmanship above all else, and at every possible opportunity they did not leave a good mark on the other's wine. Over the years, this turned into a bitter dispute that divided the two families in the most terrible way.

Two young people in particular suffered from the quarrel - the daughter of one of them had lost her heart to the son of the other winegrower and the two lovers felt a deep desire to marry. But both their fathers refused to give their blessing. The unhappy couple soon became desperate and decided to complain to the village priest and seek divine advice. Without further ado, the priest called the two quarrelling winegrowers to him and spoke to their consciences.

But the two old squabblers remained irreconcilable and showed no understanding, so the two lovers secretly left their village to find happiness far away. They only returned when their fathers had died of grief and unbending quarrelsomeness. As a sign of reconciliation between the two families, the young couple cellared the grapes of these two grape varieties together from then on, resulting in a wine that combines the best of both.

    • 17,5/20 Bona Aestimare points
    • Grape varieties: Assemblage, including noble, partly dried Pinot Noir grapes
    • Wine type: The sultana notes from the dried grapes can be found in the final product. The result is a fruity, very sweet wine. It also has an incredibly varied aroma: berries, plums, tobacco, cloves, cinnamon, cherries and chocolate are just some of the flavours that are often mentioned at tastings. The tannins counterbalance the fruity flavours.
    • Maturity: 3-5 years
    • Serving temperature: 15-16°
    • Goes well with: Roasts, mature cheeses, polenta and stews.
