The legend about the wine
The Donno zen Dorren was the strongest man this side of the Simplon and was said to be able to lift a table with his teeth alone.
When Saracens tried to occupy the Simplon Pass in the 10th century, Donno was sent to stop the invaders. He impressed the Saracens from afar with his roar alone. It turned out that they had no intention of taking the Pass at all. They were just passing through.
As a sign of peace, they allowed Donno to take the Italian wine barrels from the customs house. He grabbed one of them under his left arm and one under his right. He grasped another with each of his four fingers. Then he marched back with them to Brig. There they believed that Donno had defeated the Saracens in battle. The wine was celebrated as the victory drink.
Zen Dorren then started to practice as a winegrower and developed his own wine "Donno Zen Dorren", which is still said to have special powers today.
