The legend of wine ( listen )
How beautiful it must have been back then in the “Lost Valley”, located behind the Matterhorn, the “Hooru”.
Long before the first tourists ventured onto Monte Rosa, Zermatt hunters passed by these secluded spots. Some of them recounted seeing a large, green valley—a true paradise!—right in the middle of the glacier. God, they said, had taken this valley under his special protection and kept it safe from evil spirits, so that this area would never be covered in permanent snow.
The golden sunbeams danced on the grapes of the vines and bathed the cherries, apples, and plums on the trees in a paradisiacal light. The most beautiful flowers bloomed in the meadows, and the chamois froliced exuberantly in the fresh grass. Marmots emerged from their burrows and whistled merrily, hares and foxes played with their cones under thousand-year-old Swiss stone pines, and there were plenty of other animals in the area as well.
Everyone lived in perfect peace. Alpine roses, gentians, and lobelia exuded an intoxicating fragrance, spreading throughout this place where no human being had been for a long time. But cursed be the hunter who one day dared to disturb this stillness, this peace, with a shot from his hunting rifle. He paid for it with his life. But since then, nothing has been as it once was. According to legend, this "Lost Valley," this paradise, reveals itself only every seven years, and then only to those who are truly free from sin. The delicious juice, however, which is extracted from the vines of this paradise, can be enjoyed here in our wine cellar year after year.
z'Matterhoru Pinot Noir AOC
Initially somewhat reserved on the nose, it quickly develops very pleasant notes of red berries. On the palate, it is a beautifully structured wine with a highly appealing balance of well-integrated tannins and aromatic fruit notes.
