Hell's wine Dôle Blanche AOC VS

The legend of the wine

The first clergy who lived in the Valais are said to have been the Johanniter (Knights of St John).

Long ago, knights who were friends visited the Johanniter on horseback. As usual, they were given a wonderful meal and were also given wine from the Johanniter’s own vines to drink.

This wine is said to have been so good that the visitors drank a few glasses too many. When the gentlemen wanted to leave again, they were so drunk that they no longer knew what was the front and what was the back of the horse. "What did you give us to drink? It's a real hell's wine! You don’t know where you will end up.” Since that day the wine shall bear its name.

Today the people of Valais know that one should go sparingly with this wine. That's why you should take my advice and only ever taste one glass of it. However, if our guests should drink a few glasses too many from time to time, they should make sure that they know where they will be staying if they cannot find their way home.
