The Legend of Wine ( listen )
A pious old widow is said to have lived in a small village near Brig. She diligently spun wool every day until the evening. When it got cold outside, she is said to have let the poor souls in at midnight.
She left a candle burning and went to bed. When the poor souls came in, they warmed themselves by the stove and stayed with old Schmidja until the morning. One evening, however, Schmidja is said to have spun longer than usual. The poor souls were already calling out from the window, "Schoch, old Schmidja is still spinning." But the old widow was determined to spin the remaining tow. But it was icy cold outside, and the poor souls are said to have slammed the door open with a gust of wind.
On the evening she died, the poor souls were said to have been seen in a procession to the glacier. Today, when the poor souls pray to be let in, they are said to call out "Schoch, D Alt Schmidja is still crazy" for protection. So that they leave us in peace and do not suddenly haunt us on the day of our death.

Bona Aestimare about d'alt Schmidia Merlot:
"The red wine shows a bright dark purple colour with beautiful church windows. The nose is strong, opulent with beautiful Merlot fruit. There are aromas of plums, ripe blackberries, chocolate and coffee. The young wine needs some time and a lot of air to open up really well. The palate presents a strong, spicy Merlot with well integrated wood, round tannins. This is a young powerhouse that is still allowed to mature. If you want to enjoy this great red wine now, let it breathe for a few hours in the carafe. Very well done - the Valais Merlot is still developing - at the beginning of the drinking maturity until 2025."
