The legend of wine ( listen )
There was a time here in Valais when the climate was much milder year-round than it is today, and people could live and make a living even high up in the mountains. But then the climate began to change – it became cooler, more unpredictable, and harsher again.
And so, in the first half of the 18th century, the true nomadic life began in Visperterminen. People had dwellings and barns in various locations, but they had to be on the move year-round. And so, in spring, they could be seen making their way from the village up to the hamlets, from there further up into the foothills of the Alps, and later even up to the Alps themselves. And in autumn, all that long journey led them back down again, sometimes even all the way to Visp. It was a time of "fircha gfahru" – from the valley floor to the ridge.
But it wasn't only people who were on the move at that time. No, the poor souls were also wandering about. And so it happened that, a good way along the road before the large bend in Visp , early one morning still in the darkness, a winegrower, who was driving his cart down into the valley to deliver his wine, was startled by his horse. The carter managed to save himself at the last second, but his horse and the cart with the wine barrels plunged down the ravine and were, it seemed, lost forever. The winegrower sat forlornly in the ditch and, in his despair, turned to the poor souls and pleaded for their help. And indeed, it wasn't long before he heard a noise, went out onto the road, and saw the funeral procession passing by. He took heart and spoke to the dead. But they replied: “We cannot help you, we must hurry. The first ones are already on the Siwiboden, the last ones out in the Kehr. But you will be able to get help from them.”
And sure enough, when the funeral procession had ended, his horse was suddenly standing healthy again in the street, and the cart was laden with sweeter and more delicious wine than ever before. The vintner delivered this fine wine to Visp and returned home to his loved ones in deep gratitude.
From then on, he pressed precisely this excellent grape juice, which soon enjoyed great popularity - also thanks to the knowledge of the history surrounding the origin of the wine .
From the Valley up to the ridge Gewürztraminer AOC
On the nose, this white wine presents notes of mango, liochik, and cinnamon. These notes are also beautifully expressed on the palate. A wonderful harmony is achieved, especially in combination with the acidity.
