The legend of wine ( listen )
A young man from Gletsch, who was not blessed with worldly possessions, finally wanted to marry his sweetheart. In order to build a home for himself and his bride, he found work with a winegrower further down the valley.
One day, his master asked him how it was that, despite the hard work in the vineyard and the wine cellar, he always had a cheerful song on his lips and whistled merry tunes. The young man replied, "When I think of my sweetheart, my heart overflows with joy, and until I can be with her, I give all my love and longing to the vines!" "Then these grapes shall become a very special wine for your wedding!" replied the winemaker, and he taught the young man how to make an excellent sparkling wine.
And so, even today, people still tell stories of this fabulously lavish wedding celebration and the exquisite sparkling wine, whose effervescent bubbles danced merrily on the tongues of the wedding guests , making them laugh and sing.
