The legend of wine ( listen )
Johanneli is said to have been the first innkeeper on the Brigerberg in the 17th century. After closing time, she would secretly top up the wine barrel with water. When a guest caught Johanneli in the act one evening, she was driven out of the village.
She was never seen again. At the time, it was said that she would have to remain forever as a lost soul in the glacial waters to atone for her grave sin. But since the Aletsch Glacier began to melt, it is said that Johanneli has been freed. Presumably, that is why the wine is available again, only this time it is said to be cleansed of her guilt.
Johanneli Fi, Heida Excellence AOC VS
A rich straw yellow with golden reflections in the glass. On the nose, fresh with a promising potpourri of citrus fruits, floral notes, and initially restrained nuances of peach and melon.
On the palate, the initial taste is pleasantly balanced and full-bodied, with notes of peach and melon becoming even more pronounced and complementing the beautifully present acidity. Overall, a very finely balanced interplay of sweetness and acidity that is simply enjoyable, even on the long finish.
